Last weekend, team members Emmanuelle and Martha headed north to serve alongside the Dominican Sisters of Saint Cecilia at a retreat on the theme of ‘Leadership is Service.’ Taking place in the snowy village of Tomintoul, the event was held in Saint Michael's Centre and was for those in fourth to sixth year. Children from all over Scotland gathered for an exciting weekend organised by Sr. Angela Marie and Sr. Bernadette Marie. The event featured fellowship, worship, fun and prayer. The majority of the group had attended our Summer Camps and it was amazing to see so many familiar faces and talk with them about their experiences of faith and Generation Hope.
Emmanuelle gave a fantastic talk on ‘Family as a Foundation for Service’ and spoke about how we can answer the invitation from Jesus to love our neighbour by starting with those in our homes and families. Martha spoke the following day on ‘Service beyond Borders’, focusing on the works of Mary’s Meals and sharing her personal experience of being a Mary’s Meals Youth Ambassador.
Whether we were playing games, toasting marshmallows, singing praise and worship, walking through the beautiful countryside, having deep discussions in small groups, or kneeling before Jesus in the Eucharist, everything was centred around sharing the love of God with others through service and leadership. And to top it all off, we were very excited to experience the first snow fall of the year together!
We can’t thank the Dominican Sisters enough for having us and for all the incredible youth work they are doing here in Scotland!
